A Meticulous Multi‑Phase Approach to Hospital Expansion
Mason General Hospital
Hoffman planned 35 distinct phases to ensure a safe, smooth expansion of this community hospital in a small rural town on the Olympic Peninsula.
The project includes new surgical suites, as well as a new entrance, lobby, and admitting area. The project encompassed a 20,000 SF addition and the remodeling of 75 percent of the building, all while keeping patients safe in the active hospital.
Hoffman approached the work plan in a meticulous way, identifying 35 distinct phases. These phases ranged from a sub-panel shutdown and main feeder replacement to relocating an existing operating suite in just one night’s time.
The addition included an expansion of the existing emergency department. We coordinated an MRI scanner installation and constructed shielding to prevent radiation transfer. We also refurbished all patient care rooms. In preconstruction, we used mock-ups and other techniques to give project stakeholders a chance to guide the hospital’s design.
