Multnomah County's First LEED‑Certified Building

Hillsdale Library

Consistent with Thomas Hacker designs, the Hillsdale Library features the building’s structural skeleton. The steel columns, beams, and roof deck are all exposed, requiring precise and accurate construction to meet architectural finish standards. On this, the first building in Multnomah County to pursue LEED certification, Hoffman achieved LEED Gold through use of FSC-certified materials and by recycling and salvaging over 80% of construction waste materials. Hoffman was awarded the project following the dismissal of the original GC, and we were issued a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy almost a month ahead of schedule. This advantage allowed library staff to move in furniture and books even before the final stages of construction were complete.
