A Complex Renovation and Addition Brings State‑of‑the‑Art Sports Facilities to Western Oregon

Hoffman built this 85,000 SF addition to Western Oregon University’s athletic facilities in Monmouth, combining a renovation of the historic “Old PE” building and a new wing. The full-size basketball court includes a non-adhered sport court floor over radiant heating and an elevated mezzanine-level running track.
There are two racquetball courts and four multi-purpose rooms, one designed for dance classes, as well as a large, flexible cardio and weight training area. In addition to regular locker rooms, there is a large separate locker area for the football team, as well as offices and training/hydrotherapy facilities. Offices, tiered classrooms, and an exercise science lab round out the addition. The project included a 10,000 SF renovation to the existing basketball court and an extensive renovation/upgrade to the pool that brought the aging facility up to code while adding a spa therapy pool.
