Eklutna Water Treatment Plant
Hoffman completed the mammoth earthwork and large-scale concrete pours required to build this facility in the face of a harsh Alaskan winter by erecting a huge air-supported tent—the size of three football fields—that covered the entire site. Hoffman placed 25,000 cubic yards of concrete and installed numerous mechanical systems, pumps, flocculators and a 750-kilowatt turbine generator. The plant provides 35 million gallons of water a day to Anchorage and vicinity; it is the largest in the world to treat glacial water and remove glacial flour. Hoffman built the project in 28 months.
