A New High School Emphasizes Vocational Training
Sandy High School
One of the largest high schools in Oregon, Sandy High School provides extensive vocational training, with professional-grade shop spaces dedicated to industry-specific training in fields such as construction, manufacturing, engineering and drafting, and automotive. The Hoffman team worked closely with the program teachers to ensure their ideas were incorporated into the space.
At 310,000 SF, Sandy High School is one of the largest high schools in Oregon. A key component of the program is the school’s extensive vocational training facilities, which include professional-grade shop spaces dedicated to industry-specific training in fields such as construction, manufacturing, engineering and drafting, and automotive. The team worked closely with the program teachers to ensure their ideas were incorporated into the space. Hoffman built mock-ups of student work areas to optimize ergonomics and mechanical and electrical service. Working closely with the District, the design team, and the community, Hoffman found ways to expedite the schedule. We worked with a local logger to have 80 acres of the site cleared ahead of the building permit issuance. As a result, the site was cleared and cleaned ahead of the excavating subcontractors starting their scope of work, shaving six weeks off the schedule.
